Last weekend, we celebrated Lauri and David’s marriage at The Commonwealth Club in Richmond, Virginia. Their traditional ceremony and classic wedding reception was one for the books and their wedding photographer, Sam Stroud was there to capture every moment. Here is one of our favorite pictures of the bride that captures her elegant style beautifully. We cannot wait to share more pictures of Lauri and David’s classic Richmond, VA wedding!

In addition to providing you with this calendar, we also want to share a wedding planning tip with you! Last month’s tip focused on taking time out for yourself during the planning process (see blog post here) – stepping away from the wedding to have some fun with friends and family during the month of love. We know that a break is a great way to reenergize. And as long as you have a good game plan in place, you will not fall behind on planning.
To organize a successful wedding game plan, you need to:
1. Decide how much you can afford to spend.
2. Decide who you are inviting.
3. Discuss what style and format you want for your wedding.
Sounds simple, right? If we had a penny for every time we hear – “we never realized how stressful and difficult it was to plan a wedding” – we would be millionaires!
It is not that you aren’t capable of performing the tasks required to plan your own wedding. It’s that wedding planning is a full-time job. You have a busy schedule – you work full-time, you have a social life, you also may be working on buying a house, finishing grad school or the like. Add on the 1 million tasks you need to complete to pull off the wedding of your dreams and you may be feeling a bit (or very!) overwhelmed. We completely understand when you come to us with anxiety driven emotions. After all, we do this as our full-time jobs and have produced over 100 weddings and events.
This is why we always recommend that the first step of your game plan is to a hire a wedding planner and designer or at least consult with one.
Sometimes, wedding planners carry negative stereotypes, but just like weddings have changed over the years so have wedding planners. Think of a wedding planner like a financial and design consultant. Let’s be honest…weddings are a big expense that people choose to pay for. And if you have never planned a wedding before, then you need someone to advise you on cost, decor and logistics. We don’t sell products. We provide services that help you spend your wedding budget wisely, provide and manage the process and creatively collaborate with wedding vendors to make your vision a reality.
Event design isn’t just about having good taste, style or the ability to pull the vision together. Yes, all those things are very important, but to keep focused on this wedding planning tip topic, it is also about leading and managing a team. A team of creative people with a lot of beautiful products that know you have a budget to spend. That my friends, take a lot of time, patience, knowledge, resources and focus so your wedding day dreams come true.
We want your planning process and wedding day to go smoothly, plus look gorgeous! The wedding vendors do as well, but someone must lead and manage your wedding planning. That could be you, your mom, your friend or us! But what’s your plan for planning your wedding?
We have a plan and process to design and execute weddings. We also can help you put together a wedding plan for planning your wedding.
Fête Weddings offers a variety of services from wedding planning to wedding consulting, event design and more! To learn more, just shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a ring at 804-225-5574.
We would love to help you start off on the right foot now instead of down the road when you are stressed. Relief is here. We are here.
We adored Kelly and Chris’s romantic coral wedding vision, and we absolutely love that Grey Likes Weddings does too! Kelly and Chris were married last June at Veritas Winery in Afton, Virginia. Although the images from Jodi Miller Photography look picture perfect, the weather was not our best friend on the day. But that is one of the fabulous things about holding your wedding at Veritas, the rain plan in the main ballroom is beautiful, and they have a backup generator! The happy couple and their guests didn’t even know we lost power during the evening!
The wedding was a complete labor of love for the bride, who dreamed up the most gorgeous pink and coral whimsical with a large dose of southern flair! We loved helping Kelly execute her dream wedding! Southern Blooms created the most magical florals, and Goodheart Design was a revelation with her custom watercolor letterpress invitations and paper goods.
To discover more about the wedding event design and the couple’s love story, check out the feature on Grey Likes Weddings.
February is such a romantic month with Valentine’s Day just around the corner so we felt it was only appropriate to dress up our free February calendar download with a healthy dose of love! Who doesn’t love some pretty red hearts! When you look at your phone, computer or iPad, we want the calendar to be a friendly little reminder to make sure you schedule time your loved ones this month. We want the wedding planning process to be fun and special for you which is why we are here to hold your hand up until and throughout the the big day! Our main goal as wedding planners is to save you time and stress so you can focus on your courtship and love! If you follow the wedding industry or the design world in general, you know all about Pantone colors and probably get as excited as we do about their announcement of the “Color of the Year!”
This year, we heard a giant sigh from the wedding industry when Pantone announced Rose Quartz (a soft, dusty pink) and Serenity (a light, powder blue) as the “2016 Colors of the Year.”
It is no secret in the wedding world that blush, or Rose Quartz, is probably the most popular wedding color. We do love a the dusty soft pink, now called Rose Quartz, and we have designed several weddings based around this lovely, romantic color over the years.
The Fête wedding that stands out in our minds that used this gorgeous dusty, soft pink is Rachel’s wedding in 2011. Rachel claims to be the trend setter of the Rose Quartz bridesmaid dress. She looks so cute with her maids draped in blush—you are a trendsetter in our books, Rachel!
Last year, we saw a lot more blues being used in wedding color palettes, and we have a few clients loving this soft blue hue as well. Two of our 2016 May couples are using blues in their color palettes but have different style directions.
Alex and Tyler are using more slate blues for their classic, romantic mountain wedding in Afton, VA in late May 2016.
Now that Pantone has announced Serenity as a 2016 Color of the Year, we are sure we will see more weddings using this soft, romantic hue.
We love Pantone and their “2016 Colors of the Year,” but we decided to push the envelope a little and share with you a color we have been “Color Crushing” on lately and show you some ways to incorporate it in your wedding decor, fashion and interior design.
Fête Weddings “Color Crush” this month is…drum roll please…tangerine!
We love tangerine because it is so bold and fun! How can you not be happy when you see this color? Plus, there are so many ways you can incorporate it into your florals, which is a great way to bring the color into you wedding without it being too loud.
When we are developing color palettes, we like to think of all the elements involved. Having a wide color palette creates balance throughout the design, so we paired the tangerine with a soft blue (Serenity), a pretty peach, a sophisticated navy blue and a touch of metallic gold!
Overall our advice is not to be afraid of bold colors and don’t only think soft colors are for overly romantic styles! Think of your color palette in a wide spectrum, keep the elements you are using in mind and have some fun!
Happy New Year! Hope everyone is having a great start to the new year! We are jumping in full force at the studio and cannot believe Spring 2016 wedding season is upon us! Wasn’t it just Fall 2015 wedding season last week?

2015 was a wonderful and busy year for us. We had so many exciting things going on behind the scenes, and we had the opportunity to work with so many sweet, amazing couples and their families to plan and design their weddings and rehearsal dinners. With everything happening around here, we got a little behind on our blogging, but we plan to get back on track in the new year! Here is a little sneak peak of our fantastic 2015 weddings and events!
